“I was lucky enough to spend close to 15 years on and off with Quincy and Bruce Swedien in my studios. Starting with The Color Purple, Back On The Block, Sinatra’s LA Is My Lady and then parts of Thriller and all the Michael Jackson albums after that. It was like having an extended family and I don’t think it would have been possible to have more fun. Quincy held court with virtually every imaginable artist and his ability to recognize extraordinary talent and help bring out the best from all involved was simply magical.
“I have watched Quincy with sometimes difficult artists in complex musical situations effortlessly disarm everyone and move things forward smoothly. He just had the knack of making all involved feel completely comfortable. He was an extraordinary musical diplomat! I don’t know if there’s anyone who could ever step into Quincy’s shoes but he showed all of us what’s possible! When Quincy asked me to help record the all star choir for We Our The World I had a chance to watch him make musical history.
“His music will stand the test of time and provide a valuable reference point for the producers of the future!
“Here is a great photo featuring Quincy in my Ocean Way Studio A conducting an all star choir. Left to Right: Stevie Wonder, Syreeta, Michael Jackson, Dionne Warwick, Lionel Richie, Christoper Cross, Patti Austin, Kenny Loggins, Michael McDonald and James Ingram.”
